The tunnel portal, the entrance of the under-construction Siddhababa tunnel route, has witnessed a landslide after a heavy rainfall occurred since last night. The landslide has buried the tunnel near the Siddhababa temple in Palpa district.

Engineer of the project, Yudhisthir Panthi, said that the landslide has caused a heavy damage to the site adding that he has not visited the site after the damages.

He added that details of the losses are not confirmed as yet.The China State Construction Engineering Corporation is building the project at the cost of Rs 7.34 billion. It is said that the project’s officials had worked on the concrete slab just four days ago despite Nepali technicians’ suggestions not to carry out the job in the time of rain.

The landslide taken place earlier had buried the outlet of the tunnel in Palpa section. The current blockage in the Butwal site of the project is sure to increase the construction cost. Currently, 80 workers are working on a daily basis on the site.
